The 49ers starting quarterback, Brock Purdy, is right around the corner from his first Super Bowl appearance in just his second season in the NFL and his first full season as the starting QB. Purdy, freshly turned 24, is the third youngest starting quarterback in Super Bowl history after being deemed "Mr. Irrelevant" two years prior in the 2022 NFL draft.

At Perry High School in Glendale, Arizona, Purdy was a three-star recruit and set an Arizona record of 57 touchdowns. He averaged a 3.8 GPA while also earning the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year honors. After his high school career, Purdy totaled 8,937 passing yards and 107 touchdowns overall.

Purdy took his football talents to Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Though ISU isn’t a SEC school, Purdy still dominated on the field. Purdy made his start as a freshman where he started eight games and continued to command the Cyclones through his senior year. As a sophomore, Purdy had a touchdown pass in 12 consecutive games. His junior year, the Cyclones were ranked the highest they have been in over 100 years, sitting at ninth in the national rankings, and won the Fiesta Bowl. Senior year, he led the Big12 in yards to finish his college career. Purdy was a three-time All-Big12 quarterback and set 32 school records. He is widely regarded as one of the best quarterbacks to play Iowa State football.

Purdy entered the 2022 NFL draft, where he was the 262nd pick to the San Francisco 49ers. This was the last pick in the entire draft, earning Purdy the nickname "Mr. Irrelevant." Purdy became the starter for the 49ers in week 14 through the 2022 season after being the third string quarterback. He won his first start against Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fast forward to now, Purdy is going to his first Super Bowl in only his second season and is being considered for NFL MVP honors. Purdy has 31 touchdown passes and 4280 yards going into Super Bowl Sunday.

The 49ers are set to face off against the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs quarterback is looking for his third ring in six years of being a starter. Brock Purdy will be looking for his first ring on Sunday, February 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Not so Mr. Irrelevant anymore…
