With 375,000 subscribers and 93 million views on YouTube, it’s no exaggeration to say that Gretchen Geraghty has a massive audience. Many people love her for her transparency, relatableness, and positive personality. When you watch her videos, you feel like you’re on a FaceTime call with a friend. What a lot of people don’t know, however, is that she is an NHL WAG. And in my opinion, she’s by far the most stylish one of them all.
GRETCHEN AND MAX
Max Willman is a forward currently playing for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect to the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Buffalo Sabres selected Willman in the fifth round 121st overall, of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Gretchen and Max have been together for many years, since they were both in college actually.
Willman being a professional sports player makes Gretchen an NHL WAG, or ‘Wives and Girlfriends’. Gretchen documents on both her Instagram account and YouTube channel a lot of behind the scenes footage of what it’s like to be a girlfriend of a professional hockey player. She discusses the difficulties of being away from Willman while he’s out of town with his team playing in games, and the constant moving around during the on and off seasons. But, Geraghty also highlights all of the awesome experiences the two of them get to have because of professional hockey.
BRAND DEALS & BRAND AWARENESS
Gretchen has a Revolve page where buyers can click her favorite products and purchase them directly through the link (and she gets a percentage of the sales). The link is in her hoo.be link located in her Instagram bio. As you can see below, she has everything from clothing to accessories to homegoods favorites on her page.
Geraghty consistently posts Instagram pictures where she tags where her outfits are from, typically being Princess Polly or Revolve. She does, however, also post pictures tagging brands with whom she doesn’t have a collab or discount code/link with. This promotes a ton of brand awareness to her large audience, and in turn brings in both Geraghty and the brand a lot of money. Geraghty is also showcasing in these posts how to style a wide variety of different pieces, which many viewers can appreciate.
AESTHETICS
Gretchen’s Instagram feed is truly something every Pinterest girly can appreciate. I’m not sure what is more aesthetic, her outfits or how photogenic all of her pictures are.
Geraghty pairs killer photo editing skills with killer looks and the result is a whopping 201,000 followers on Instagram. Her fashion sense is one that leaves many young girls and women desperate to recreate her iconic looks (myself included).
RINK SIDE STYLE
As a diehard fan of hockey, I always have and will look forward to Gretchen’s gameday Instagram posts with Max. She always is wearing the cutest outfits and the two of them consistently look like a couple right out of a movie. I’ve never not looked at one of these pictures and been online window shopping for hours trying to piece together a look that matches hers. Somehow, she’s able to pair comfy and cute with dressed-up and chic all in one outfit.
THE ULTIMATE IT GIRL
Whether it’s going for a weekend trip with the girls, heading out for a fancy dinner with Max, or attending a brand-sponsored event, Gretchen never fails to keep fans in the loop with an abundance of content. Her life would easily fit into anyone’s description of an ‘it’ girl. No matter where she’s headed, even if it's just hanging out at home with her dog baby Brody, she’s always rocking a stylish outfit.
This is why, in my opinion, she is by far the most stylish NHL WAG. Her taste in clothing is impeccable and is always up to date with the latest trends.
NO GATEKEEPING
There are very few things Gretchen doesn’t share with her fans. It could be food, a restaurant, a store, a hotel, a clothing brand, a pet company, etc., and Gretchen will always let her viewers know where it's from or where it's at. There never really is any “gatekeeping” with her. As you can see in her Instagram highlights, she links outfits and a ton of other things she loves in her day to day life. In her hoo.be link, you can find both her Revolve page and her Amazon Storefront. Unlike a lot of influencers, Geraghty is eager to share her faves with the people who support her online. If she loves it, she wants you to love it too.
FUTURE OF FASHION
No matter where life takes her, I foresee Geraghty always being a style icon. I think fans should expect to be able to enjoy her content for at least another 10 years. Being someone who loves clothes as much as she loves hockey and sports, I always have found Gretchen’s content to be like the best of both worlds for me. Her ability to relate to so many people is something that many creators strive to do but often fail at. And, to boot, she’s always up on the latest brand fads and fashion trends. As long as she is with Willman, whom she’ll undoubtedly be marrying in the next few years, she’ll always be the most stylish WAG.
