Sometimes baseball is about more than just the game itself. It is about having fun, enjoying the game you love, and making friendships along the way. Here are some best friends that get to play the game they love together.
Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ozzie Albies
Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ozzie Albies play together for the Atlanta Braves. Acuña is a right fielder and Albies plays second base. The two are always seen having a good time together both on and off the field. They came up from the minor league together, which essentially started their close bond, and have been inseparable since. They bring energy to the whole team with the way they joke around with each other. You can often see the two messing around on the field together before games.
Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo
Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo have played for the New York Yankees together since 2021. Judge and Rizzo are both great, hardworking players and are Yankee fan favorites. So needless to say, fans absolutely love this pair’s friendship. They both have the same kind of dog, a mini dachshund. Judge’s dogs are named Gus and Penny; Rizzo’s is Kevin. They even have matching button-up shirts with mini dachshunds on them.
When Judge’s contract was up in 2022, he was deciding if he was going to stay with the Yankees or go to another team. Rizzo helped convince Judge to stay in New York. One of the ways he helped convince him was by sending pictures of their dogs and saying that the dogs were now friends and should not be separated. Judge and Rizzo have been seen a few times out at New York Ranger games together having a good time and even having drinks. Judge’s wife, Samantha, and Rizzo’s wife, Emily, seem to have gotten close because of the duo. They ran the New York Marathon in 2023, and the guys were there supporting their wives. Afterwards, they all hung out together.
Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts
Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts have only been playing together since 2022 but have quickly formed a strong friendship. The two play for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Freeman is a first baseman and Betts is a right fielder. Freeman joined Betts for his podcast in October 2023 and they talked about all things baseball and fantasy football.
The two were mic’d up together in July 2023 at the All-Star game and it sure was entertaining. Freeman and Betts have formed such a close friendship that even their families spend time together. In an interview the pair did with ESPN, they talked about how their friendship has grown since they first became teammates.
Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson
Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson have played for the Detroit Tigers together since 2022. This was both of their first years in the majors. Greene plays right field and Torkelson is a first baseman. This duo has formed a very close friendship and seem to have a lot of fun together. Right before the 2023 season, the duo went on Bally Sports Detroit with Natalie Kerwin and played mini golf. It was fun watching them play and have a good time with each other.
Nolan Gorman and Matthew Liberatore
Nolan Gorman and Matthew Liberatore truly have a one-of-a-kind story. They play on the St. Louis Cardinals. Gorman plays second base and Liberatore is a pitcher. They have played in the majors together since 2022, but have known each other since 2004. They met while playing baseball. Gorman was four years old, and Liberatore was five years old. That is only the start of their baseball adventure. The two went to separate high schools, but reunited to play baseball at the University of Arizona.
In 2018, they were both first-round picks in the MLB draft. Gorman was the 19th pick and Liberatore was the 16th. They were both in the minors for a few years, not always on the same team together. On March 18, 2022, they were both officially called up to the majors. To be called up to the majors on the same day and to the same team as your best friend was a dream come true for the two of them.
