Do you love watching Nebraska volleyball? Michigan softball? USC women's basketball? UCLA gymnastics?
If you're like me, you love the Big Ten, women's sports, and Big Ten women's sports. And if you're like me, you're going to love that things are getting bigger and better for Big Ten women's sports.
The Big Ten Conference announced at the beginning of the month that it will be creating a new competition: the Allstate Big Ten Women’s Championship Series. This year-long competition is designed to highlight women athletes across 12 sports in the Big Ten.
This announcement comes a month after Allstate launched an all-sport championship series with the Big 12. The competition they created with the Big Ten, though, is focused on women's sports and brings women athletes to the forefront in a way that hasn't been seen before.
With the rise in viewership, attendance, and popularity, there has never been a better time to invest in and uplift women in sports, especially at the collegiate level. With the competition, the Big Ten and Allstate want to "spotlight and celebrate excellence in women’s athletics across the conference."
“The Big Ten’s commitment to women’s sports stretches back decades and is reflected in the competitive success we see today," said Tony Petitti, Big Ten Conference Commissioner. "As we continue to explore opportunities for growth, we’re excited to partner with Allstate to further showcase these exceptional student-athletes, coaches and teams throughout the year."
Allstate will sponsor the Big Ten Women’s Olympic Sports championships and tournaments, which include basketball, cross country, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. They will also sponsor "On The Pitch," a new series on the Big Ten Network, which will highlight stories from B1G women's soccer.
Elizabeth Brady, Allstate's chief marketing, customer, and communications officer, said, "Allstate continues to support both programs and student-athletes during this transformative era in college athletics. Together with the Big Ten, we’re elevating women’s sports and empowering all student-athletes who lead on their campuses and in communities.”

In the championship series, B1G schools will have the chance to earn points based on their performance throughout the year, including both regular and postseason games and competitions. At the end of the academic year, the school with the most points will be recognized as the Allstate Big Ten Women's Championship Series champions.
More people are tuning in to and attending women's sporting events than ever before, and the Big Ten and Allstate are committed to not only making those games and competitions accessible but also highlighting the teams and athletes as they deserve.
“As [Big Ten Network] continues to expand its live championship offerings, Allstate’s commitment to women’s sports will enhance BTN’s coverage of the most significant moments, shots and plays in Big Ten women’s athletics," said François McGillicuddy, president of the Big Ten Network.
This is a big win in the Big Ten!
