Suppose you’ve been MIA and haven’t watched tennis recently. There’s a lot to catch up on. For starters, out with the old and in with the new. Many tennis legends are retired or nearing the end of their careers, which means the tennis landscape is changing tremendously. This year’s Roland Garros ushered in a new era of tennis. This new era consists of exciting young players who want to make their mark. However, two players stand out from the crowd: Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz.

Coco Gauff is one of the best tennis players in the world. She is currently ranked No. 2 and is coming off an electrifying win at Roland Garros. She earned her second grand slam title in a dominant win over No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, whom she also beat to win her first grand slam in 2023. Noticeably, Gauff has Sabalenka’s number and makes a solid case for world No. 1. Gauff is also the first American woman to win the French Open in 10 years. Who was the last? Serena Williams, the GOAT and Coco’s idol. Gauff has stated many times that she wouldn’t have pursued tennis if it weren’t for Serena and Venus. The Williams sisters' influence is clear and has shaped Coco into the amazing player she is today. Coco is just 21 years old and already has two grand slams, the 2023 US Open and the 2025 French Open. Ever since she entered the world stage, she’s been unstoppable and is surely someone you can't keep your eyes off of. Coco has proven that she has what it takes to be the next Serena or, even better, the next Coco.

Carlos Alcaraz started playing tennis professionally at 16 and has been a problem ever since. Alcaraz defeated No. 1 Jannik Sinner in a thrilling victory at the French Open. When the match looked like it was slipping away from him, he made an incredible comeback. While a lot of fans had already counted him out, Alcaraz stayed grounded and showed why he is here to stay. His grit and resilience prove why you should never underestimate the heart of a champion. Alcaraz claimed his fifth Grand Slam at Roland Garros and became the third-youngest man to win five Grand Slams. Who is he behind? Rafael Nadal - one of the greatest to ever do it. Rafa was 22 years and 33 days old and Alcaraz was 22 years and 34 days old when they won their fifth Grand Slam. Alcaraz has already won the 2022 US Open, 2023 and 2024 Wimbledon, and the 2024 and 2025 French Open. Alcaraz’s goal is to be the best, and he's certainly on track to do so.

With Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz, tennis is in great hands. Both Gauff and Alcaraz have achieved tremendous success throughout their young careers and are the pioneers of this new era. The best part is that there are plenty more grand slams to be won and matches to be played. You haven’t seen the last of them yet.
