With the MLB season in full swing, it’s time to start looking at individual performances and see which of our favorite teams can make a run for the World Series trophy this year. In case you haven’t been paying close attention, here’s how your favorite American League teams are performing so far in 2025.
American League East
Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles currently sit at the bottom of the AL East and have one of the worst starting pitching rotations in MLB. While they have been known for their consistency for the last two seasons, the Orioles are currently hitting a rough patch and cannot find a common ground between good hitting and good pitching. Only time will tell if the young stars of the team can hit their stride and head back to the top of the standings.

Boston Red Sox
The 2025 season has been a roller coaster so far for the Red Sox. Some key players, like Triston Casas and Jarren Duran, haven’t found themselves at the plate yet, and their defense has struggled mightily. On the pitching side, the Red Sox are relying heavily on their newest member, Garrett Crochet, who recently took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Chicago White Sox.
New York Yankees
After losing Juan Soto in the offseason, many questioned if the Yankees would be able to win the AL East again this season. They currently sit atop the standings, despite struggling on both sides of the ball. Consistency is one of the biggest issues for the team, since they have the ability to score 10 runs one day and get shut out the next. Their starting rotation is also statistically the worst in all of MLB, and Max Fried is their only reliable starter at the moment.

Tampa Bay Rays
Despite playing in a Minor League stadium that isn’t their own, the Rays have had a surprising start to the 2025 season. Coming off of a less than impressive year on the offensive side, the Rays are coming back into their own, and players from the bottom of the lineup are helping the charge.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays are another surprising team in the AL East this season. While the team entered the season with quite a few question marks, they were able to secure a long-term extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and shift their focus to retaining Bo Bichette as well. The Blue Jays may have had a few issues surrounding their offensive players and pitching, but players like George Springer and Easton Lucas have silenced those questions.

Chicago White Sox
The White Sox set the record for most losses in a single season in 2024, and so far, it looks like this trend may continue. However, fans can look forward to new and exciting players joining the team this season, since the White Sox are entering a full rebuild. While the record might not be ideal, the future is still bright for the team. That success just might take some time.
Cleveland Guardians
Coming off of a trip to the ALCS last season, the Guardians have started strong. However, their closer, Emmanuel Clase, has been less than perfect so far. Clase was one of the best relievers in baseball during the 2024 season, but has now allowed more runs over eight innings than he did all of last season. The good news is that elite pitchers can normally figure out these troubles, and Clase is certainly elite.

Detroit Tigers
So far this season, the Tigers have been the AL’s most complete team. Their pitching and hitting combined is winning them games, with each unit picking up the other when they are struggling. Starters Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal have been impressive, and Spencer Torkelson might finally be coming into his own at the plate.
Kansas City Royals
Coming off a great 2024 campaign, the Royals are disappointing in a few aspects. The team has only won two series so far, with both coming against AL teams with a losing record. While pitching has been decent, offensive inconsistency is leading to the team losing more games than they should be.

Minnesota Twins
The Twins are off to one of the worst starts in franchise history; they were just recently voted as one of the most unwatchable teams in MLB in a poll by ESPN's David Schoenfield. In addition to a bad start, the Twins are losing players to injuries left and right and will need to get healthy in order to compete within the division.
AL West
Athletics
In their first season away from Oakland, the Athletics are finding themselves in a familiar position: the bottom of the AL West. Despite this, the team has found a bright spot in Tyler Soderstrom, who currently leads MLB in home runs.

Houston Astros
This Astros team certainly looks much different than the 2022 World Series winning team, which may be part of the reason why they find themselves near the bottom of the standings. However, the Astros are known for slow starts and have overcome many throughout the last few years. Starting pitcher Hunter Brown has also shown promise and has not allowed a run yet this season.
Los Angeles Angels
While the Astros are known for having slow starts each season, the Angels typically start strong. This season is no different. Before their last series against the Astros, the Angels had won every series and were playing very well. Not to mention, the Angels finally got Mike Trout back after injuries took time away from his last few seasons. While Trout is currently batting under .200, simply having his presence in the lineup helps the team.

Seattle Mariners
While the Mariners find themselves directly in the middle of the AL West standings, they have certainly struggled so far. Their series win against the Astros last week was their first series win of the season and the offense has been less than perfect thus far. But, after starting 3-7, they have won 5 of 7 to get back into the game.
Texas Rangers
While the Rangers currently lead the AL West, their offense has certainly struggled so far. Coming into this week, the offense was the last unit to score more than seven runs in a game this season, but they finally crossed that milestone on April 13. Pitching has also been an issue for the Rangers, who have given up more than seven runs four times this season. While they are overcoming these issues to get to the top of the division, it’s hard to imagine they stay there for the entire season.
