Phase one of the 2023 MLB All-Star Game fan voting wrapped Thursday with the two finalists for each position being revealed. MLB is unique in the fact that they are one of the only leagues that allows fans to have a say in who they will watch play in this midsummer classic. This year’s voting process entailed fans choosing who they would like to see start at each position. The player with the most votes in each league is given an automatic starting position in the All-Star Game.
Here is a breakdown of the fan-selected finalists at each position.
Catcher
American League: Adley Rutschman (Baltimore Orioles) and Jonah Heim (Texas Rangers)
National League: Sean Murphy (Atlanta Braves) and Will Smith (Los Angeles Dodgers)
First Base
American League: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Toronto Blue Jays) and Yandy Diaz (Tampa Bay Rays)
National League: Freddie Freeman (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Matt Olson (Atlanta Braves)
Second Base
American League: Marcus Semien (Texas Rangers) and Whit Merrifield (Toronto Blue Jays)
National League: Luis Arraez (Miami Marlins) and Ozzie Albies (Atlanta Braves)
Shortstop
American League: Bo Bichette (Toronto Blue Jays) and Corey Seager (Texas Rangers)
National League: Orlando Arcia (Atlanta Braves) and Francisco Lindor (New York Mets)
Third Base
American League: Josh Hung (Texas Rangers) and Matt Chapman (Toronto Blue Jays)
National League: Nolan Arenado (St. Louis Cardinals) and Austin Riley (Atlanta Braves)
Outfield
American League: Aaron Judge (New York Yankees), Adolis Garcia (Texas Rangers), Kevin Kiermaier (Toronto Blue Jays), Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels), Randy Arozarena (Tampa Bay Rays), Yordan Alvarez (Houston Astros)
National League: Corbin Carroll (Arizona Diamondbacks), Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (Arizona Diamondbacks), Michael Harris II (Atlanta Braves), Mookie Betts (Los Angeles Dodgers) (Ronald Acuña Jr. advances)
DH
American League: Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Angels)
National League: J.D. Martinez (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Bryce Harper (Philadelphia Phillies)
Fans can select the remaining starting players when phase two voting begins on Monday, June 26 through Thursday, June 29. Fans can catch the midsummer classic on Tuesday, July 11 at 8 p.m. Eastern on FOX.
