Kiana Jones knows good football and she’s ready to share all the fumbles and first downs during the 2024-25 NFL season with you. She’s making football, for the girls. The show will release it first episode on Sunday, September 1st under the SGC network. Stay tuned for tinis with your touchdowns on The GRL Zone.
WHAT IS THE "WHY" BEHIND THE GRL ZONE?
The GRL Zone was started for every girl who has ever been “quizzed” to “prove” they are a fan of a sport (hello this is not Jeopardy and you are not Alex Trebek). And especially for the girls who have been intimated at games because they are unsure of what’s going on - so enter me! I wanted to teach my girls the basics (“film rooms”) and show how understanding the NFL really is as simple as 123. I want girls to see that watching football can be just as fun as binging our favorite reality tv show (would you believe me if I said the drama rivals Real Housewives).
I also wanted representation for us regular girls out there - hi! I work a corporate job and do not know the exact stats of a certain player or if he was a 5 star recruit (these are small details as far as I’m concerned).
THOUGHTS ON SPORTS GIRLS CLUB?
From the beginning - Sports Girls Club was something that I gravitated towards. I saw this group of powerful, fun and charismatic women taking on the Sports Industry and knew I had to be involved in some way! I can’t wait to join a group of women with the same synergy as me that just want to bridge a gap in a male dominated world. Women make the world go round and it’s time the sports world sees it. I can’t wait to take on this mission with the girlies by my side.
TELL US ABOUT KIANA...
I grew up surrounded by football and sports my whole life being the youngest of 3 and only girl. I did little league cheering and quickly realized the game was more exciting than actually knowing my cheer routine LOL. I can still hear my mom yelling in the bleachers at football games “BLOCK FOR YOUR RUNNER” (it is important to note she would yell this when the team played both offense and defense).
My grandma used to joke that the Superbowl for me was a holiday (it went Thanksgiving, Christmas, NYE and then SUPERBOWL). Even back then when my superbowl party consisted of me, my parents and grandma it was the best time of the year.
I studied Biochemistry at Virginia Tech and quickly knew research and development was perhaps not for someone who has an affinity to yap like me. I pivoted in my career after college by taking a coding boot camp course that launched me into the technology consulting world that I am in now!
