The quarter-finals for the 2024 UEFA European Championships concluded on Saturday, July 6. These matches determined who would be going to the semi-finals, set to begin on July 9.
Spain and Germany had their fourth-ever meeting at the Euros in a game that ended in an upset for the host country. Spain won 2-1, with Dani Olmo of Spain making the first shot in the 51st minute after a tense first half that saw no goals. Florian Wirtz evened the score with just minutes left on the clock, sending them into extra time. In the 119th minute, Mikel Merino of Spain with a cross into the box. Fabián Ruiz was shown a yellow card for his celebrations. Dani Carvajal was later shown his second yellow card of the match for dragging Germany’s Jamal Musiala back after the midfielder rolled the ball past him. Spain has now won all five of their matches at the Euros this year.

Portugal once again came to a penalty shootout in their match with France, ending 0(3)-0(5) for France. Tensions were high as the game trickled into its third hour with still no side coming out on top. French superstar Kylian Mbappé suffered a broken nose and was subbed out right before extra time halftime began.

England vs. Switzerland also came to penalty shootouts, with England prevailing 1(5)-1(3). The first half featured little action, the first goal happening in the 75th minute by Switzerland’s Breel Embolo. With 15 minutes left to go, pressure was on for England. Just five minutes later, England’s Bukayo Saka tied the score. Extra time went into a penalty shootout, where England managed to land two more home than Switzerland, taking the win.

The Netherlands emerged victorious against Turkiye 2-1. Samet Akaydin's first goal of the game came in the 35th minute to boost Turkiye into the lead. Stefan de Vrij of the Netherlands tied the score with twenty minutes left. While some may have anticipated the game to head into yet another penalty shootout, the Netherlands saw a turnaround with an own goal off Mert Müldür into his net.

Spain will play France on July 8, and the Netherlands will face England on July 10. The results of these matches will decide who advances to the finals, which will be played on July 14.
