The Boston Fleet Find Success in a 2-0 Home Opener Over The Montréal Victoire

The Boston Fleet kicked off the 2025-26 season hutting out the Montréal Victoire with a 2-0 win for the home opener. November 23, also deemed ‘Fleet Hockey Day’ in the city of Lowell, recognizes the impact of the Fleet on the community.

The Fleet came out strong showing aggression early on in the first period. Just 1 minute and 13 seconds into the season opener, Jamie Lee Rattray set up Susanna Tapani for the first goal of the season, giving fans a preview of what the team has in store for the 2025-26 season. The dynamic defensive duo of Megan Keller and rookie Haley Winn assured strong passing behind the home of goalie Aerin Frankel. Both teams battled in the Fleet’s defensive end, and with just 3 seconds left, Frankel added two saves to the tally mark, and by the words of Victoire coach Kori Cheverie in the post game press conference, she had an “outstanding” game.

The Fleet gained advantage with two powerplays in the second period, keeping the puck deep in the offensive zone for a majority of the second half. A scoreless second period left the Victoire just one short of the Fleet, but the team held their own defensively.

The third period kicked off with 50 seconds left on the powerplay, and it followed through the period, leaving the Fleet with a total of 8 powerpoint minutes. With two Victoire and one Fleet player in the box, the players took the ice for a 5 on 4, with Fleet advantage. Assisted by Alina Müller, Captain Megan Keller netted a goal, bringing the team to a 2 goal lead over the Victoire.

This game marks the first in-season PWHL game for newly appointed head coach Kris Sparre. In the post game press conference, Sparre shared his excitement for his growth with the team, “With a new playing style, the team was aggressive, there’s just some things that we need to clean up… I’m just excited to see what the future holds.”

The Fleet’s stars of the game were newly appointed captain Megan Keller, Aerin Frankel, and Susanna Tapani, leading the Fleet to their first win of the season.

The Fleet will take the road for their first away game of the season against the Toronto Sceptres on Saturday, November 29 at the Coca-Cola Coliseum.
