The Final Showdown: Carlos Alcaraz Claims Second US Open Title

Tennis had its last grand slam of the year, which brought many stars to Arthur Ashe Stadium. The battle of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz continued in New York as they fought for four sets, where Alcaraz ultimately won the championship. Let’s take a quick look at how both of these stars made their way through the tournament and ended up being the last two standing.
Jannik Sinner

Sinner, who won the 2024 US Open Men’s Singles, had a lot of eyes on him coming to the tournament after coming off his 2025 Wimbledon Championship win. Last year, Sinner was victorious against American tennis player Taylor Fritz. The Italian player, Jannik Sinner, was looking for a repeat of last year, trying to maintain his position as No.1 in the Association of Tennis Professionals.
Round One
Sinner first faced Vit Kopriva, where he won in three straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2. There were some worries surrounding his first match following a sickness that caused him to retire early from the Cincinnati Open Final against Alcaraz. His sickness had even caused him to withdraw from the Mixed Doubles tournament alongside his teammate, Katerina Siniakova. During the match, Sinner appeared to have a blister on his right finger; however, he was still able to win the match.

Round Two
Following his win against Kopriva, Sinner was set to face Alexei Popyrin. Yet again, Sinner took the match in three straight sets, which were 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. Sinner had won 67% of the net points, whereas Popyrin had won 74%.
Round Three
Sinner's start against Denis Shapovalov worried many Sinner fans. While Sinner had won the match, he dropped the first set. Sinner fell behind three points but was able to make up for it in the end. The match ended up 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3.

Round Four
After his match against Shapovalov, he faced Alexander Bublik, where Sinner won in three straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1. A lot of people were amazed at the fact that Sinner won the match in just an hour and 21 minutes.
Quarterfinals
The match against Lorenzo Musetti was a highly anticipated match as both Italians would go head-to-head. The final ended in 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, launching Sinner into the semifinals. Sinner had won 91% of the first serve points, which allowed him to move on to the next round.

Semifinals
Sinner met his match when he faced Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime. Both players battled it out as they went to four sets, resulting in 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Sinner dominated in the first set; however, he struggled during the second set, where he had to take a medical timeout. Once he returned, he continued to dominate and won the next two sets. The injury wasn't deemed serious, and he was ready to face Carlos Alcaraz.
Carlos Alcaraz

Round One
Coming off his match in the mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu, Alcaraz was set to face Reilly Opelka. Alcaraz won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. On the serve, Alcaraz won 86% of the first serve points and won 65% of the second serve points, leading him to the second round.
Round Two
Alcaraz then faced Mattia Bellucci in the tournament, where Alcaraz took the match in three straight sets, winning 6-1, 6-0, 6-3. Alcaraz continued to dominate on the serve with seven aces and hitting 32 winners.

Round Three
Heading into Round Three, Alcaraz played Luciano Darderi. The final score ended 6-2, 6-4, 6-0. Asserting his dominance, Alcaraz hit 31 winners and served nine aces. Alcaraz, who had been on a roll by not dropping a set, headed to the fourth round.
Round Four
Arthur Rinderknech faced Alcaraz next, where Alcaraz won 7-6, 6-3, 6-4. Alcaraz dominated once again on the serve, where we won 85% of the first serve points and 76% of the second serve. Alcaraz also hit 36 winners, which had him headed to the Quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals
In the quarterfinal stage, Alcaraz faced Jiri Lehecka. Alcaraz won in straight sets, which was 6-4, 6-2, 6-4. Alcaraz hit 28 winners, winning 84% of the first serve points, with 73% of the second serve points won, which allowed him to move on to the semifinals.
Semifinals
This was by far one of the most highly anticipated matchups in this tournament. In the Semifinal, Novak Djokovic faced Carlos Alcaraz. Djokovic has beaten Alcaraz five times in the eight times they have faced one another. Alcaraz won in three straight sets, 6-4, 7-6, 6-2, where he had 31 winners, won 84% of first serve points, and 54% of second serve points. With his win, he was headed to the finals to play against Sinner for the 15th time.

Finals
On Sunday, September 7, Sinner and Alcaraz went head-to-head. Alcaraz defeated Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. During the finale, it was Alcaraz's first time dropping a set in the whole tournament.
In the first set, both Sinner and Alcaraz had one ace, with zero double faults, and 11 winners. However, in the second set, Sinner took it with eight winners and won 4/4 of the net points. While Sinner took the set, he had two double faults, compared to Alcaraz, who had zero. Following the third set, Alcaraz won his set with five aces, 11 winners, and had won 91% of first serve points. Alcaraz was just one set away from winning the US Open. In the fourth and final set, Alcaraz defeated Sinner with three aces, 15 winners, and zero double faults.

Ultimately, Alcaraz served 10 aces, had zero double faults, won 83% of the first serve points, and 57% of the second serve points.
