Imagine being in a baseball stadium with a gorgeous view of New York City on a summer night where you not only got to watch an exciting baseball game, but got to learn from a handful of incredible women in sports during a pre-game panel. That’s exactly what it was like when the Staten Island FerryHawks, an Atlantic League team, hosted their Women In Sports Night on Tuesday, August 5.

I was lucky enough to be on the panel as a representative for Sports Girls Club and the NHL Network. The women beside me were some of the most inspiring within the sports world and especially in the local sports scene. Emma Schilling of the NWSL, Olivia Reckley of Gotham FC, Lauren LaRusso of the FIFA World Cup ‘26, Susie Cirilli of Cirilli Sports, and Jane McManus of NYU were also featured on the panel. The conversation surrounded a wide variety of topics such as working in women’s sports, building relationships across men’s and women’s leagues and much more which was insightful for everyone in attendance.
After the panel, attendees were welcome to network and mingle with the panelists. I met plenty of young women who are passionate about sports, particularly hockey, that reminded me of why I do what I do. Being surrounded by so many people who are like-minded and are all working towards a goal similar to yours is something special which could be felt in the air that night.

First pitch was thrown and everyone focused on the game. The panelists and attendees of the women in sports event headed up to a fully stocked suite with a perfect view of the field, surrounding Hudson River and Lower Manhattan in the distance. All different conversations continued throughout the night ranging from anything and everything sports related to where everyone was from or other interests.
The FerryHawks were an amazing host and inspired so many people with their Women In Sports Night. From attendees to panelists, everyone left feeling confident and excited about the future working in sports. Being able to talk to others about what I do on a daily basis with Sports Girls Club and the NHL Network was a lot of fun and I learned so much from the other women on the panel who all do very different, but important jobs in the industry.
You can follow both the FerryHawks and Sports Girls Club on Instagram. And don’t forget to support women in sports in any way that you can!
