The Boston Fleet took the ice against the 2024-25 PWHL season champions, the Minnesota Frost in search of what was theirs; a win vs. the Frost. The game made moves, not just in the standings, but in PWHL history. Adding one win to bring the Fleet to a 4-0 season marks the best start to a season by a team in league history.

The Minnesota Frost came out strong, offensively, but not strong enough to stop the sailing Fleet. At 17:03, Shay Maloney eased past Frost’s Batherson to score her first goal of the season, and the first of the game. The fleet held a strong offensive reign, with just over a minute later Captain Megan Keller sending a top shelf goal assisted by Alina Müller.
Klárá Hymlárová of the Frost set up the team for their first goal of the game against Fleet goalie Aerin Frankel. Prior to Hymlárová’s goal, Frankel held an impressive record stopping 70 out of 71 shots on goal, making this the second goal against the Fleet this season. At 3:40 the Fleet gained advantage with a power play, and naturally did what they do best; converted it to a goal. Forward Abby Newhook sent the puck just inching past Frost goalie Maddie Rooney for her first goal of the season, and third Fleet goal of the game.
Haley Winn Makes Strides For the Fleet

Defensive rookie Haley Winn has made strong moves for the Fleet in her debut PWHL season. The defensive pairing of Winn and Keller made an unstoppable combo for the Frost, failing to find success on the power play. Winn expressed her gratitude to work with Captain Keller, “I know that we’ll back each other up; whatever happens on the ice.”
The third period kicked off with a penalty on Frost’s Peyton Andersen for holding. With the power play advantage, Theresa Schafzahl docked the 4th goal of the game for the Fleet assisted by Jamie Lee Rattray. The Fleet dominated both offensively, and defensively, with Ella Huber and Maloney generating impressive passing in the offensive end.
With just 10 seconds left in the game, Laura Kluge left the ice with a 5 min major penalty for crosschecking, with Rattray serving in the box.
The Fleet are now heading off to the international break, but how will they keep this start to the season momentum? Head coach Kris Sparre sees it as a ‘reset’ for the undefeated Fleet, “It gives us an opportunity to work on some system things that we still need to get cleaned up.”
The Boston Fleet are back in action on December 17th to take on the New York Sirens (2-0-3) for their second away game of the season at the Prudential Center.
