Much like any other year, the Met Gala has come and gone with a roar. This year’s prestigious guest list included many athletes, including the Williams sisters and WNBA rookie Angel Reese. The theme was a bit complicated, as the carpet and gala had one theme, while the exhibit itself had another, leading to some confusion among attendees and designers. The exhibit’s theme was the Garden of Time, inspired by J.G. Ballard’s short story “The Garden of Time”. The exhibition titled “Sleeping Beauties”, was divided into three distinct sections: land, sea, and sky. It aimed to emphasize the care and time invested in preserving iconic fashion looks. The theme also played on the story’s concept, with the looks being “asleep” in the archives, and now “awakened” and displayed.
Serena Williams was one of the standouts this year. Last year, she announced her pregnancy while accompanied by her husband, Alexis Ohanian, on the carpet. This year, she dazzled in a fabulous golden Balenciaga gown, which many fashion critics assumed alluded to a gold medal, commemorating her legendary career. Venus Williams also attended, wearing a custom Marc Jacobs gown. Her outfit was silver and reflective, featuring a sheer slip overlay. The five-time Wimbledon champion looked gorgeous.

Lewis Hamilton is known for his style on and off the F1 track. Dressed by Burberry in a custom suit, Hamilton actively participated in the design process. The suit was inspired by one of Britain’s first black gardeners, John Ystumllyn, and even featured an excerpt from “The Gardener” by Alex Wharton embroidered into the lining. The ensemble was also adorned with black flowers and a beautiful necklace, completing his polished look.

Angel Reese was also spotted on the carpe, making history as the first WNBA rookie to attend. It was reported that she flew from Chicago to New York directly after practice to make it to the event. Reese looked spectacular in a shimmery seafoam gown designed by Marco Capaldo. Adding to the special occasion, it was also her 22nd birthday.
